Reminiscing About An Old Trip

Reminiscing About An Old Trip

I rediscovered some old DVDs while cleaning out the garage and decided to add these photos to my website from a trip I took to the UK and Ireland. I may have lost the videos I recorded—those DVDs wouldn’t work—but maybe I saved them somewhere else.

I flew into Dublin early April in 2008, stayed overnight, and then continued on to London. I enjoyed walking around the city and only took a taxi once. From there, I took a train to Stonehenge, then traveled by train to Edinburgh and Inverness, with a quick stop in Stirling to see the Wallace Monument. I got lucky in Edinburgh and ended up with a beautiful, spacious hotel room on Princes Street, with views of the Scott Monument, Edinburgh Castle, and The Balmoral. In Inverness, I took a Loch Ness tour and captured some great footage of Urquhart Castle shrouded in mist from the boat. Unfortunately, the bus driver was drunk—he was drinking whiskey from a flask and even hopped a curb on the way back. The old hotel I stayed at there had a lot of character; I wish I had taken photos of it.

From Inverness, I went to Stranraer but missed the last ferry and had to wait at the station all night for the morning crossing back to Ireland. I was trying to save money, but in hindsight, I should have just booked a hotel room. I didn’t get any sleep that night and only managed to rest a bit on the ferry.

Back in Ireland, I visited the Giant’s Causeway, but there were no buses running. Luckily, I stumbled upon a cab company. Although it was officially closed, someone was there and offered to help me out. I had to walk around the Giant’s Causeway with my luggage, but at least I got to see it—along with Dunluce Castle. After that, I headed back to Dublin and returned home.

Here are some old photos from that trip, and I had some video of Urquhart Castle on my laptop.
